Some More Care
What do you care about?
Are you cared for?
What is care?
In this context we are talking about a form of nurturing. It is on the body/mind/spirit level. First, do you care for yourself? Do you nurture yourself, watch out for your best interests, tend to your health and well being? Now many of you “care” for others and take care of others? Our question is, “What do you do for you?” Do you take time to exercise or stretch or relax each day? Do you feed yourself foods that nourish and energize? Do you tend to your clothes? Do you take a luxuriating bath to relax your tension? Do you sit in meditation to maximize the time you have available for introspection?
How many of you find yourself running all day for the care of others? Now, sometimes the care of others is an important thing but where does that leave your care? If you do not care for and about yourself then who will? How many of you have people willing to show you care and to help nurture you and you do not avail yourself of these offers?
It is about balance. If you put too much on one side of the scale, there is not enough left on the other to balance the energies and this causes discord and disharmony. We are not talking on a daily basis here, but on a larger scheme of things. Take one month or if easier, one week. If you choose, look back on the past week and see how the balance of care has played out. If you were too busy and not paying attention in the past week, begin now to notice how the care scales are balanced. We are not asking you to change any behaviours nor to judge any that you possess. Again we are asking only for observation. Notice how often you put aside your needs to help others. Now the helping of others may play out as doing your job at work, but it can also include family, friends and associates. It can also include strangers if you are given to volunteering. As you go through this week in reality or your mind, notice your energy levels. Are you tired when you go to bed? Are you sleeping when you go to bed or are thoughts keeping you from rest? Just begin to notice where you choose to use your energies and then whether or not you replenish those energies by taking care of yourself.
All fires must be tended or they will burn out of control or burn out completely. Neither choice is good, so be observant as to how you “care” for the fires of your life. You can burn just as brightly if you burn at a steady, measured level giving yourself enough oxygen to burn but not exhausting the supply.
We leave you in care and rest.
