Balance
How do you balance yourself?
When you are having a great day do you look at all the places where you might have missed something? On a difficult day do you search for the good you put into the world, or the world put into you?
Most of us just ride the waves of our moods and what the world throws at us. We label all the events as good/bad, happy/sad, success/failure and the best one fair/unfair. We are on the teeter totter of life. Up and down we go enjoying the exhilaration of flying into the air and dreading the loud thump as our butts hit the ground.
What if we all spent just a bit of time each day trying to bring back equilibrium to our lives? It is a form of gratitude in a way. The acknowledgment that this day has had a mixture of wins and losses. Challenges and triumphs have occurred, but we are focused on one or the other rather than both.
To some this may seem rather Pollyanna, but it isn’t. The judgement of Pollyanna is just that, a one-sided view of events. The pessimist and the optimist exist within each of us, both vying for our attention. Who wins the most for you?
Taking a few minutes at the end of each day to do a review and rebalance the debits and credits just might make you sleep better or make a more impactful plan moving forward. It is easier to create from stability than from dysregulation or desperation.
Balance is usually seen as walking a tightrope or flipping about on 4 inches at gymnastics meets. Both are harrowing and look impossible, but you’ll get the hang of it and that will help your bottom line.
