Third Anniversary & Love

This is the third anniversary of my blog.  To all you who have hung out with me for 157 weekly postings, thanks and also a shout out to those that have recently joined and all of you who read them as the mood strikes. Your time and attention are much appreciated as are the periodic commentary received from some of you. Thank you.

So, I have been spending a bit of time on my spiritual side these past six months. Rereading works by Yogananda on the teachings of Christ and the Bhagavad Gita. You know, your usual light reading amounting to 2800 pages.  I had read them both about 20 years ago and found them enlightening and interesting then, but currently they hold a deeper and more encompassing study.

I just started a Bhagavad Gita Zoom study group which is fun. It will be interesting to see where it goes and the questions we ask and answer along the way. The essence of it for me is that the Gita presents a pantheistic view of the world, which takes the idea of God and presents it as the Universe and removes the discussion from religion which is where I find most people get bogged down.

To quote the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “Pantheism may be understood either (a) positively, as the view that God is identical with the cosmos (i.e. the view that there exists nothing which is outside of God) or (b) negatively, as the rejection of any view that considers God as distinct from the universe.”

I could quibble about one idea being positive and the other negative for I view “b” to be the view that is expressed in all of Yogananda’s interpretations of what is God according to either of the books in my study.  Part of my conclusion is based on the idea that God is the Cosmic Consciousness and as is verified in quantum physics, the only thing beyond the Cosmic Consciousness is Love. Or to more precisely quote The Beatles “love is all there is.”

As I observe my fellow earther campers and their beliefs and espousals regarding religion and therefore God, it fascinates me that most people believe that there is one God, but that somehow, they are in possession of said God. The only way is their way. Often their way seems angry and judgmental and exclusionary and static. This, not that. My way or the highway. But, for me if we take it out of religion and simply look at how the universe works (back to physics) there is only love.

The next problem is that people look outside of themselves for love and many believe it is not there for them. But as one of my informants (Dr John DeMartini) puts in front of each person when they attend a class, “No matter what you have done or not done, you are worthy of love,” it is available to each one of us. Here’s the secret you need to go inside yourself to find it.

Happy exploration. Thanks again for your support and here’s to love.
