Something to Chew On
DIET
What are you living on? What do you do to sustain yourself? Now the obvious question is food and drink. What are you putting into your body? Do you try to eat balanced meals of protein, vegetables and carbohydrates? Do you eat enough? Too little? Does the food you consume make you energized and alive or tired and slow? Do you drink a lot of water and some light teas or do you consume caffeine in large quantities and sugared drinks? How about alcohol? Is that consumed regularly? If so, how does it make you feel the next day – alive, rested, hydrated? So take a few moments to consider how you are fueling your “life vehicle” or this thing you call a body.
Now as you contemplate what you eat and drink, we would also like you to consider how you use those foods and beverages. Are you using them to create your overall health or are you using them to deaden sensations? Be aware that food can be as much of a drug as alcohol or pills or other things. It can be used to deaden your sensations, so also try to observe when and how you use the food and drinks to create emotional distance.
Now we want you also to look at your diet of exercise. Do you physically exercise your body on a regular basis or do you do just do the bare necessities to get by such as simply walking around your home or doing your errands? Do you walk briskly anywhere, do you swim, do you run, do you dance? These are all forms of exercise and it is important that your body be kept in tone. This does not mean you must run many miles or bike for hours, but rather that you allow your body to circulate life through it and feel the pulse of living.
Next what is your spiritual diet? Do you take time to commune with spirit? Do you find the time to be quiet, away from the business of living and to go inside and examine life from the interior rather than the exterior? Spirit means something different for everyone but it does not matter what you consider to be your method of spirituality as long as you take a few moments each day to spend in quiet contemplation. There is a marvelous internal world available to you that will empower your external and bodily world if you take the time to dine at its table. Some people say that they get too busy to eat, and we believe that many of you are too busy to dine at the table of spirit and replenish yourself and nourish yourself with the divine feasts of living.
We leave you to chew on this.
