Loving It

Love. Something that is universally sought and illusive for many. It is also conditional, punitive, small and petty. At least when expressed through man’s limited experience.

The world feels divisive currently. Actually, it has been divisive for millennia, but communication was vastly limited until now. Everything feels like gamesmanship and territorial battles whether it be in government or countries or land grabs. We all live on Earth and then we have divided it into countries and mostly we go along with the imaginary constructs of borders. It makes things more orderly and manageable in small bites. Until it doesn’t and we become entrenched in “our” country, family, business or beliefs.

It seems we are all at war in some way most of the time. Fighting for what we perceive as ours or for our beliefs. We want peace but we would like others to be peaceful first and then we can join in because our work here will be done.

Loving what is, is a tough sell. It is a great idea but a hard practice. It requires giving up control and most of us LOVE control when perhaps we should just try love.  What are our fears? Poverty, danger, loss, harm, the absence of free will?

Safety is a big one. It is only a perception because safety is not in our control. Caution is and awareness but even when exercising those something “unsafe” can come flying in out of nowhere. Again, proving that we control little other than our reaction.

Trust is another favorite. To note the title of one of my favorite books, “In God We Trust. All Others Pay Cash”. Who do you trust? More importantly do you trust yourself?

I see love all around and I can feel it.  I attempt to put it out into the world and I feel it deeply when I see fellow earth dwellers exhibiting the opposite behavior. I get that there is a lot of struggle, hurt and ugliness but perhaps if more of us freely tossed love out into the ethers we could begin to reclaim some of the lonely, angry and unloved.

To quote Ram Dass, “We’re all just walking each other back home.” Or “If you think you’re enlightened, go spend a week with your family.”

Sending you all love and hoping you pass it along.
