It’s One Thing Or Your Mother

“She was the perfect Mother for me.”

That was my thought as a photo of my mom on our trip to Australia popped up in memories. Her smile. Her laugh. Her viewpoint on life. The next thought was, “but not for everyone.”

Then I heard that voice I hear in my head.

“Stop. She was the perfect Mother for everyone. Everyone has the perfect mother, and it is their job to figure out why they are perfect.”

We have this construct that mothers are supposed to be all the things on the greeting card list:

    Loving * Patient * Compassionate * Caring * Fun * Doting *Non-judgmental * Available

Fill in the blank with whatever you believe they were or should have been. Then take a moment to consider the idea we all choose our parents and the experiences that the choice brings. Maybe we are all here to learn something and we all have different learning styles and therefore need different parents and experiences.

So, on this Mother’s Day weekend, take a bit of time and consider that you too have had the perfect mother. Then get about figuring out why. It will be the best gift you give yourself and her.

Enjoy
