Fairness

How fair are you with yourself? Do you give yourself a fair hearing where you are concerned? Do you treat yourself fairly or do you judge yourself too harshly and find yourself wanting? How willing are you to be even and non-judgmental about your abilities and foibles and skills?

Think of someone that you care for. Do you make allowances for them when they do not achieve perfection in each moment? Think of a co-worker that you might help along if they are not understanding or grasping a certain project. Do you treat them with kinder words and more patience or do you tell them they are idiots and rant at their stupidity? In other words how willing are you to be balanced and at peace with each moment of life?

Fair or fairness is a big thing for many people. You often hear, “That’s not fair!!” spoken by people who feel somehow compromised. What is fair? Is fair always having everyone be equal? What does it mean for everyone to be equal? Is everyone equal? Do you all come into this life with the same skills, beauty, wealth, opportunity and desires? Is it “fair” that you do not? What is fair?

In a microcosm it means simply that in certain situations, perhaps such as a contest of some sort, the rules of the contest are the same for everyone. But is that even fair as you sense it? Not all people in the contest, whether it be physical or mental, are coming in with the same skills. They do not have the same mind or body or strength or eye color or hair color or nationality, so is it truly “fair?”

So now, think about the word “fair.”  How often do you use it? It is often used by children as they complain to parents about their lives. What they have is not as good as someone else. Your treatment of them is not the same as you treat others, etc.   Students in school often feel that the teachers are not fair. They do not like essay tests or they do not like to have to write papers and so that requirement is not “fair,” but who is to say?

Life is not Fair nor should you expect it to be. It is what it is for you and that is fair enough. Your souls come in for a variety of reasons. You choose to be who you are in this life with all the baggage and advantages and handicaps and joys. It is what you do with life that matters. It is how you play the cards you have been dealt. It is knowing how to improve this hand or thing called a life and make it the best it can be FOR YOU. Not for anyone else, just for you. Now this does not mean that you can go and do harmful things to others because it is good for your soul, but rather sit for a few moments and think about what YOU want from this life. Then consider what it will take for you to have what you need or want and begin along that path. It may be an easy trip and it may be seemingly difficult, but if you push through your own insecurities and keep moving ever forward the rewards are great. Now that is fair!

We leave you in love.
